Birds in the Heart - Five Inner Demons

Greed, like water that floods all over the place, is very difficult to control.
People will work and toil throughout and entire life because of it.
Anger, like a raging fire,
makes us burn with impatience,
agitation, and distress.
Ignorance, like a trap, leads us to confusion,
gives rise to afflictions,
and locks us into unfavorable situations or
states of mind, unable to find a way out.
Arrogance, like a steel fence or iron wall,
keeps us from transcending the self,
and makes others feel uncomfortable.
Doubt like suspicion, mistrust, envy and jealousy,
is like a wind that is perpetuall unsettling,
keeping us from peace of mind.
Like five demons that lay hidden inside our hearts,
these five poisons are always lurking,
and waiting for every opportunity to make trouble;
thus, inflicting stress and strain upon our minds and hearts.
